The Phnom Penh Post reports that the airport authority is considering incorporating the airport departure fee that travellers now pay at the airport into the ticket price. This would save the last minute hassle of having to line up in the airport while rummaging through your pockets for those last dollars.
However, the travel agents lobby is concerned that incorporating the fee into tickets, while a good idea, could make things less transparent in terms of where the money goes and might be used by airlines to raise prices more than the fee itself. They also complain about the relatively high Cambodian departure fee versus other surrounding countries.
Interestingly, an article on the same subject on China View reports that the shift of the departure fee is set for September 1.
